To register to vote you must be
A US citizen
A Virginia resident
Have a Social Security Number
Be 18 years old on or before the next general election. (Virginia Code § 24.2-403)
You may preregister if you are at least 16 years old but will not 18 years of age on or before the day of the next general election. (Virginia Code § 24.2-403.1)

On Election Day you must vote at your designated polling place.

Anyone convicted of a felony in Virginia automatically loses their civil rights - the right to vote, serve on a jury, run for office, become a notary public and carry a firearm. Individuals seeking restoration of their civil rights are encouraged to contact the Secretary of the Commonwealth’s office.

The Federal Voting Assistance Program (FVAP) works to ensure Service members, their eligible family members, and overseas citizens are aware of their right to vote and have the tools and resources to successfully do so. Visit FVAP.gov for more information.
