Voter Registration in High Schools
Youth voter registration opportunities are advertised in the weekly ENews or check LWVFA events. In order to work inside high schools, volunteers must be members of LWVFA, have a Virginia DMV issued identification and be certified by the Virginia Department of Elections: Contact: Pat Fege.
Publication Production and Editing
Fairfax Facts is a directory of Fairfax area public officials and government offices produced each year by LWVFA. If you are interested in working on a short-term project that begins after each election and concludes by January, contact Maggi Luca or Lyn Lister.
Condominium and Community Elections
LWVFA facilitates local condominium and community elections. Volunteers sign up for a shift to help run the election on site. This is always a fun time to make new League friends and it provides significant revenue for LWVFA activities. Contact: Mary Valder.
Unit Meetings
Unit meetings are scheduled from September through June and members are encouraged to attend any meeting convenient to them. Please refer to the Fairfax VOTER for details on the current month’s schedule and discussion. Contact Linda Beaty.
Writers needed: Fairfax VOTER newsletter
The Fairfax VOTER Newsletter is a monthly publication of the LWVFA. Contributions by members are encouraged. Contact Laura Hamilton and Katherine Ingmanson.
Candidate Forums
Local forums are scheduled each election season to ensure voters can hear directly from candidates. Help is needed contacting the candidates, writing candidate questions, moderating the forum, advertising the event and more. The League never supports or opposes any political party or candidate. Contact: Lyn Lister.
Social Media
If you have experience with platforms like Facebook, Instagram, or X —or simply an interest in digital communications—we would love to have your help. This is a great opportunity to contribute your skills, share our mission with a wider audience, and make a meaningful impact. Contact Katherine Ingmanson and Karen Heuberger.
Action/Advocacy
The League takes action on an issue when there is an existing League position that supports a policy. LWVFA monitors issues in Fairfax County and Fairfax City and advocates for good governance practices. Contact: Barbara Boardman and Anu Sahai at advocacy@lwv-fairfax.org.
Observer Corps
LWVFA members attend many Fairfax County & Fairfax City boards, authorities, and commissions as a League representative or monitor. Members observe these meetings and report any notable information back to the League to ensure we are well informed on local issues. Meetings may be in person or online depending on the agency. Contact Judy Helein.
VOTE411.org
The Vote411.org website, created by the League of Women Voters, serves as a comprehensive resource for voting and election information. Each election season, LWVFA ensures the database is updated with local candidate profiles. If you enjoy working with technology, this is a great opportunity to contribute. Contact Jessica Storrs.
Open Board Positions: If you would like more information, contact Nominating Committee Co-Chairs Susan O’Neill and Diana White, at NC@lwv-fairfax.org
