Celebrate Constitution Day!

The U.S. Constitution was signed on September 17, 1787. Celebrate this historic document—the legal framework of our country—through the activities below!

  • Reflect on the Preamble. Read and consider its meaning. You can find it [here] or on page 3 of the September Fairfax VOTER. Fun fact: Susan B. Anthony cited the Preamble to the U.S. Constitution to argue that the phrase “We the People” was meant to include all citizens—including women—who should therefore also have the right to vote.

  • Add your signature. Sign your name to the Constitution by clicking [here] and following the instructions. You can even print a copy with your signature. (How cool is that!)

  • Take a virtual tour of Signers Hall. Explore the Constitution Museum and learn more about the men who laid the foundation of our nation. Click [here], then use the yellow camera button to start the video tour. The tour has three sections—advance by clicking the red arrow on the right or the images at the bottom. Better yet, plan a trip to Philadelphia and experience the museum in person!

  • Learn more from the National Archives. Click [here] to explore additional information about the Constitution. This may be what you missed in high school civics.

  • Discover the framers. Read about the individuals who shaped the Constitution by clicking [here]. See which delegates attended from Virginia and notice which future president is missing.
