In June, the Fairfax Station Unit will be taking a field trip to Fairfax Water’s Griffith Water Treatment Plant on Route 123 in Lorton at 2PM.  We will gather at 11:30 AM in Occoquan Regional Park (across the street) to have lunch in the new Jean R. Packard Center restaurant, Brickmakers Café, and will view the location in the Park where the Turning Point Suffragist Memorial (TPSM) will be built.

It is worth noting that the Griffith WTP is built on the land where the original wood Occoquan Workhouse was located in 1917 where the women picketing the White House for women’s suffrage were imprisoned.   A Historical Marker, obtained by LWVFA and first dedicated in 1982, commemorating the place and event is now erected on the Griffith WTP property at the entrance off Route 123.

Others are welcome to join us! Contact Sherry Zachry at 703-730-8118 by June 7th if you are interested in attending.
