LWVFA OCTOBER 2017 MEETINGS
Topic of the Month: "Elections Have Consequences, Part II"
Our October Fairfax VOTER Newsletter features 'Elections Have Consequences - Part II." In this two-part series on Elections Have Consequences, we delve into the some of the causes and effects of voter turnout, both nationally and locally, concentrating on Virginia’s elections—in order to explain how important it is to vote in local and statewide elections. “All politics is local” has more meaning than you might realize. September’s Part I covered voter turnout and Virginia elections.
In October (Part II), we explore how a relative handful of votes can alter policies in our state and communities and will discuss the ultimate fate of some specific legislation from the 2017 General Assembly that LWV-VA followed.
Read the background material in the October Fairfax VOTER. Additional information contained in the Appendices, posted here:
- Appendix A – LWV-VA & LWVUS Positions
- Appendix B – LWV-VA Legislative Priorities for 2017 General Assembly
- Appendix C – Background on gun safety legislation in Virginia by Ruth Hoffman

Then join the discussion at any of the following times and places. If you have any questions, contact LWVFA Program Director Sherry Zachry at firstname.lastname@example.org.
We hope this two-part series and discussion help explain some the issues of League concern and the importance of voting in ALL elections- especially the upcoming November 5 General Election.
