balloonsLet's Celebrate!   LWVFA is 60! 
Join the celebration, commemorating 60 years of service to Fairfax City and County.

New Events:
•    Wednesday, May 7 – join us to view a display honoring the League of Women Voters at George Mason University's Fenwick Library.

•    Wednesday, May 28  – Tour of Capitol Square in Richmond, includes Capitol and Governor's Mansion.  Round-trip Bus from Lorton park-n-ride (off I-95) to Capitol Square, leaves 8:15 am and returns by 4:00 pm.  Cost of bus is $38.  Contact Jane Hilder for further info.  Click here for directions and reservation form -- deadline:  May 7, 2008.

Events that have already occurred:
•    Monday, March 31, 9:00AM - The Government Center Auditorium, BOS Proclamation stating “April 15, 2008, will be League of Women Voters of the Fairfax Area Day;”
•    Tuesday, April 8, 7:00PM – council chamber of City Hall, Fairfax City Council Proclamation honoring LWVFA;
•    Wednesday, April 16, 7:30PM – George Mason Regional Library on Route 236, FCPL Reception and unveiling of the new LWVFA exhibit board;
•    Monday April 7, George Mason University’s Fenwick Library, a League of Women Voters exhibit, starting April 7th. 
•    Saturday, April 19,  the “real party” at Greenspring Village

60th LWVFA Annual Meeting, took place on Saturday, April 19, 2008.   [Click here] for the 2008 LWVFA Annual Meeting Kit that shows the LWVFA FY08-09 Budget that was adopted; the program for 2008-10 that was adopted which also included a study of 'proffer system' in Fairfax County; and the slate of Officers & Directors that were elected including Anne Thomas as the 2008-09 Nominating Committee Chair.

  • We lobby for passage of laws we support & for the defeat of those we oppose, based on League positions.
  • We monitor elections & government activities.
  • We sponsor candidate debates & community forums about vital issues.
  • We testify at legislative & administrative hearings to insure citizen input in policy making decisions.
  • We publish & distribute issue-oriented material.
  • We advocate, we occasionally go to court to help clarify & enforce laws in the public interest.
  • We produce & distribute Voters' Guides to help citizens to choose candidates & to be prepared to vote on ballot questions.
  • We get INVOLVED!   Join us in lively conversations & interesting issues!
